Specific Shots and Angles

Image
In our AICE media project, we used a variety of camera shots and angles to enhance the storytelling and create deeper meaning within our film. One of the key techniques we utilized was the mid shot, which allowed us to frame our characters from the waist up, providing a balance between showing their expressions and their surroundings. This shot was particularly effective during moments of character interaction, as it helped to convey emotions and establish connections between the characters. Furthermore, we experimented with unconventional angles such as ground level shots to offer unique perspectives and add visual interest to our project. These shots helped to immerse the audience in the environment and create a sense of intimacy with the characters. By incorporating a combination of wide shots, close-ups, and single shots, we were able to establish the spatial relationships between characters and their surroundings, while also highlighting key details and emotions. Overall, our deli...

Editing the finale!!!

Image
The editing process for our project involved a significant amount of time and effort. Amanda primarily handled the editing tasks because of her advanced skills in this area, while I played a supporting role by assisting with music selection and transferring clips to the computer for editing in iMovie. Amanda dedicated about 3 to 4 hours to the editing process, precisely refining the footage to achieve the desired look and feel for our project. Her expertise and attention to detail were crucial in shaping the final outcome of our film. In addition to the indoor scenes filmed at Amanda's house, we also went to a park to capture footage for a specific scene. This additional filming allowed us to enrich the visual storytelling and add depth to our film. Overall, the collaborative effort between Amanda and me in both editing and filming contributed to the success of our project. Through effective teamwork and dedication, we were able to bring our creative vision to life and produce a w...

Filming Day 2!

Image
On our second day of shooting, we focused on filming the scenes set in the room and in the car at the sunrise. We were at Amanda's house, where she plays the character Alex. It was just Amanda and me working together in her house and using her car. One of the challenges we encountered was getting the angles right to capture the shots we needed. We had to experiment with different camera positions to find the best angles for each scene. Also, creating the perfect lighting needed to capture the time in the scene. Additionally, ensuring that all the clips transitioned smoothly was crucial for maintaining continuity in the story. Despite the challenges, we managed to capture some great footage that helped bring our story to life. Here are three pictures from our second day of shooting: These images showcase our dedication to bringing authenticity to our project and overcoming obstacles to create our project.

Representation

Image
In our film, we're representing two girls who fall in love but they are best friends and one is moving away. Each with their own unique personalities. When it comes to fairness and stereotypes, we're striving to depict these characters as real and relatable individuals, rather than relying on clichés or stereotypes often associated with LGBTQ+ characters. Our goal is to challenge traditional representations by portraying a diverse range of personalities within the LGBTQ+ community. By showing that love knows no bounds and can exist between people with different backgrounds and personalities, we're challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusivity. As for improvements, we're constantly evaluating our characters to ensure they're portrayed authentically and respectfully. If we notice any aspects that might unintentionally reinforce stereotypes or feel unrealistic, we're open to making edits to better represent the diversity. This might involve refining character t...

Budgeting

Image
Filming for our  project on a tight budget can be really tough and frustrating. We often don't have enough money to get all the fancy equipment or hire professional help. This means we have to get creative and work with what we've got, which isn't always easy. We might struggle with finding good locations that fit our story because we can't afford to rent them. Also, without proper lighting equipment, our shots might not look as good as we want them to. Sometimes, we have to rely on natural light, which can be unpredictable and might not always give us the look we're going for. Editing can be a pain too. We might not have access to expensive editing software, so we have to make do with what's available for free or cheap. This can limit our options and make it harder to achieve the effects we want. Overall, filming on a budget for our AICE media studies project can feel like trying to build a house with only half the tools. It's challenging, and we often hav...

Group Dynamics

Image
So far, working with my partner has been a very good experience. We've been tackling our project together, and I've got to say, it's been going pretty well. Both of us have been putting in equal effort and getting stuff done. Whether it's brainstorming ideas or editing footage, we're both right there, putting in the work. It feels good to know that we're both pulling our weight and working together as a team. Overall, I'd say our group dynamics are solid, and we're making great progress on our project! Our partnership has fostered a sense of trust and mutual respect, which has been crucial in navigating any challenges that arise. We've been able to divide tasks fairly, taking into account each other's strengths and preferences. This has helped us stay organized and efficient, ensuring that we meet our project goals and deadlines. Overall, the group dynamics have been productive and creative, making our collaboration a rewarding and enjoyable expe...

Updated Storyboard

Image
Setting shifted from a bright and sunny beach day to a sunrise in a nice park due to weather constraints. We also added a close up text scene to enhance storytelling and provide deeper insight into the protagonist's thoughts and emotions. Adjusted camera angles and effects to capture the mood of the sunny day setting, focusing on close-up shots and slow pans to evoke a sense of introspection and contemplation. Incorporated sounds of texting, cars, and doors ambiance to create atmosphere and immerse the audience in the scene. Modified the ending to leave room for intrigue and anticipation, hinting at the protagonist's journey without revealing too much.

Beach Filming Complaints!

Image
Filming at the beach for our AICE media studies project sounds like a dream, right? Well, let me tell you, it's not. First off, there is people everywhere. It's like the whole world decided to take a trip to the beach on the same day we're filming. They're walking around, playing games, and sometimes even photobombing our shots.  Then there's the lighting. While the sun is shining, it can be very annoying. One minute, it's too bright, washing out our faces. The next, it's hiding behind a cloud, making everything look dull. And don't even get me started on trying to film during golden hour when the sun's setting. It's beautiful, but it's a race against time to get the perfect shot before the light disappears. And as if that wasn't enough, we've got to deal with the weather. One minute it's clear skies, the next, clouds roll in and then there is rain. And let me tell you, sand blowing everywhere isn't exactly ideal for our equip...

Lighting

Image
For our project, we're using a combination of low key, high key, and natural lighting. Low key lighting creates dramatic shadows and contrasts, while high key lighting provides bright and evenly illuminated scenes. Natural lighting adds authenticity and a sense of realism to our shots. The choice of lighting style wasn't solely practical; it's also a deliberate decision to enhance our mise en scène. We're using lighting to reflect the psychology of our characters and to set the mood for each scene. For instance, low key lighting might be used to convey mystery or tension, while high key lighting might be employed for joyful or uplifting moments. If we had a bigger budget or more access to equipment, we might invest in professional lighting setups to further refine our lighting techniques. This could include using three-point lighting setups for more control over illumination and shadow, allowing us to sculpt the scene more precisely. Additionally, we might explore more...

Editing

Image
In our AICE Media Studies project, we're utilizing iMovie as our primary video editing software. iMovie offers a user-friendly interface, making it accessible for both inexperienced and experienced editors. However, it's crucial to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of iMovie in our editing process. Regarding video effects, iMovie provides a range of effects that can enhance the visual of our film opener. These effects include filters, color adjustments, and overlays, allowing us to enhance the mood and atmosphere. We may experiment with these effects to find the ones that best complement our theme and narrative. For video transitions, iMovie offers a variety of options to smoothly transition between clips. These transitions include fades, dissolves, wipes, and slides, among others. By incorporating a diverse range of transitions, we can maintain visual interest and flow throughout the opener. Some specific transitions we might use include crossfade, fade to black, and slide ...

Title Sequence

Image
In creating the title sequence for our film "Finding Tomorrow," we placed great importance on setting the right tone and captivating the audience right from the start. Here's our process: Generating Ideas: - We explored themes of self-discovery and personal growth, brainstorming visual elements such as paths, sunrise/sunset scenes, and nature imagery to mirror the protagonist's journey. Choosing the Font: - After trying out different fonts, we opted for a handwritten style with irregular strokes to convey a sense of authenticity and individual evolution. Selecting the Color Scheme: - We debated between warm and cool colors and ultimately settled on a warm, earthy palette to evoke the comfort of self-discovery and the beauty of nature. Determining Style and Imagery: - Our goal was to visually captivate the audience while subtly hinting at the storyline. We considered various options including live-action footage, animation, and still images. Visual Examples: - Ultimate...
