Hello bloggers!! Today I will be brainstorming for my film project. This is an important part so you can convey ideas and organize them properly. Here are the genres and the pros and cons that come along with them. 

Coming of Age:

Pros: 

1. Emotional depth: Allows exploration of personal growth and self-discovery.

2. Relatability: Appeals to a wide audience, especially students experiencing similar transitions.

3. Character development: Offers opportunities for rich, nuanced characters.

Cons:

1. Clichés: Risk of falling into predictable storylines.

2. Limited target audience: May not resonate as strongly with older or non-student viewers.

3. Requires strong writing: Success hinges on a well-crafted narrative.


Horror/Thriller:

Pros:

1. Intense engagement: Keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

2. Creative expression: Offers opportunities for innovative cinematography and sound design.

3. Genre popularity: Enjoys a dedicated fan base.

Cons:

1. Sensitive content: May not be suitable for all audiences, especially if violence or gore is involved.

2. High expectations: Audiences may have preconceived notions, making it challenging to surprise them.

3. Special effects: Requires a level of technical proficiency, potentially stretching a student budget.


Comedy:

Pros:

1. Entertainment value: Brings joy and laughter to audiences.

2. Versatility: Can be combined with other genres for a unique blend.

3. Positive impact: Leaves viewers in a good mood.

Cons:

1. Subjectivity: Humor varies, making it challenging to please everyone.

2. Timing is crucial: Achieving comedic timing requires skill and practice.

3. Risk of overdoing it: Too much comedy can detract from other elements.


Drama:

Pros:

1. Emotional impact: Elicits strong feelings and reflections.

2. Artistic expression: Allows for exploration of complex themes.

3. Awards potential: Dramas often receive critical acclaim.

Cons:

1. Potentially heavy: May not be suitable for all audiences due to intense emotions.

2. Demanding performances: Requires skilled actors to convey emotions effectively.

3. Competition: The drama genre is highly competitive in the film industry.


Sci-Fi:

Pros:

1. Creative freedom: Allows for imaginative exploration of futuristic concepts.

2. Visual appeal: Opportunities for stunning visuals and special effects.

3. Social commentary: Often used to address contemporary issues through a futuristic lens.

Cons:

1. Budget constraints: Creating convincing sci-fi visuals can be expensive.

2. Niche audience: May not appeal to those who prefer more grounded narratives.

3. Risk of predictability: Some sci-fi tropes can become overused.


Romance:

Pros:

1. Broad appeal: Attracts viewers of various demographics.

2. Emotional connection: Elicits strong feelings of love and empathy.

3. Character development: Relationships provide opportunities for character growth.

Cons:

1. Predictability: Romance plots can follow familiar patterns.

2. Audience expectations: Striking a balance between traditional and innovative can be challenging.

3. Clichés: The risk of falling into overly romanticized or unrealistic scenarios.

Camera Shots and Angles

Hello again! In this blog post I will be showing five clips of different camera shots and angles. I used five different ones to show a variety of emotion, setting, and stories. Since I am still practicing they may not be perfect BUT that is more than okay! With practice comes perfection :) Enjoy the clips!  In this clip, I was trying to achieve a close-up shot to show the emotion in the eyes.  With this clip, I used an establishing shot. The purpose of this was to show where my setting is and how it looks like. Also, how it affects the other clips and provides a portion of the time it was shot.  In this clip, I used a high angle shot to establish what the actor was doing and for the watcher to get an idea of what might come next.  I used a point of view shot (POV) to show the actors viewpoint of an action they were doing.  I used a dutch angle shot to portray disorientation that the actor is going through.

Movie Analysis

Hello everyone! I was watching my favorite show "Friends" and decided to analyze an episode called "The one with all the thanksgivings" if you have not seen the show yet, I highly recommend you do! I put five screenshots of scenes from the episode and analyzed the different angles and camera shots.  This is a medium shot and a two shot. In this scene, Chandler and Ross are washing the dishes and discussing what they will be doing after thanksgiving dinner. This scene affects the story because Chandler makes a rude comment about Monica that leads to the climax of the episode. It also shows their body language and can tell they have been friends for a long time. They also look relaxed and comfortable with one another. By the look of their outfits, you can infer the time period is in the 80's and they are at an older person's house (Ross's mom).  This is a mid over-the-shoulder shot.
