Movie Analysis
Hello everyone! I was watching my favorite show "Friends" and decided to analyze an episode called "The one with all the thanksgivings" if you have not seen the show yet, I highly recommend you do! I put five screenshots of scenes from the episode and analyzed the different angles and camera shots.
This is a medium shot and a two shot. In this scene, Chandler and Ross are washing the dishes and discussing what they will be doing after thanksgiving dinner. This scene affects the story because Chandler makes a rude comment about Monica that leads to the climax of the episode. It also shows their body language and can tell they have been friends for a long time. They also look relaxed and comfortable with one another. By the look of their outfits, you can infer the time period is in the 80's and they are at an older person's house (Ross's mom).
This is a mid over-the-shoulder shot. This scene is showing Monica trying to seduce Chandler a year after he called her "fat" and she loss weight. The shot establishes the dialogue between both of them and shows the relationship between them as friends. It shows how Monica is the one doing most of the talking and Chandler is admiring and listening. It shows their body language as you can see Monica being more seductive and intimate while Chandler is more laid back and being cautious with his posture and thoughts. You can also see their location, which is clearly a kitchen in the 80's and Monica was planning to make a dish for thanksgiving.
This is a loose close up shot. It establishes Monica looking guilty and shocked. It also shows the carrots in her hand which you can see is missing a piece which can cause the viewer to want to find out what happened to the carrot and why does she feel guilty about it. It shows the background of the scene which is the Kitchen. In the scene, Monica accidentally dropped a knife into Chandler's shoe which causes him to lose a toe. This is the screenshot of Monica's face after she realizes she cut a piece of Chandler's toe and feels remorseful.
This is a medium shot. It shows Monica and Rachel's reaction to seeing Ross's college friend for the first time. You can also see their emotion which you can infer is surprised and intrigued. Furthermore, it shows the setting which is a living room in the 80's. The clothes in the scene are also from that time period and can be clearly seen in this shot. In this scene, Monica is infatuated with Chandler when she sees him for the first time, fortunately for her, she ends up marrying him in a later season. Rachel is also into him but not as much as Monica is.
This scene is a medium two shot. It shows Monica trying to cheer Chandler up after hurting his feelings earlier on in the episode. You can see Chandler's face and can infer he is confused and interested while trying not to laugh all at the same time. Continuously, you can also see the setting which is an apartment in the 90's which is the real time setting of the show. You can infer that Monica and Chandler are in a relationship and she is trying her best to fix her mistake which luckily she does. This can make the viewer feel happy, excited, and be laughing while enjoying the final moments of the episode.
